The year twenty-first has unquestionably been the year of the NFT. But now what is the most popular NFT of 2022?
Non-fungible tokens in various shapes and sizes have entered the market, utilizing blockchain technology to maintain uniqueness and ownership. It’s evident that demand for these types of digital assets is at an all-time high, with the leading NFT marketplace, OpenSea, setting a record monthly transaction volume of USD 3.4 billion in August.
With all of the excitement around NFTs, it’s reasonable to wonder: what are the most popular projects, the most sought-after NFTs?
To find an answer, we looked at the best-selling items on OpenSea, focusing on collections of NFT collectibles rather than single works of digital art.
#1 CryptoPunks
CryptoPunks’ top rank comes as no surprise, with a total trading volume of 515,220.24 ETH. Crypto Punks, founded by Larva Labs in 2017, is a tremendously influential initiative that essentially started the NFT movement and perhaps prompted the creation of the Ethereum ERC-721 token standard.
Not necessarily the most popular NFT, but certainly one of the more expensive ones.
Ten thousand pixel-art characters inspired by the punk movement and cyberpunk fiction are included in the collection.
The New York Times and other renowned media sites have covered the CryptoPunk project.
#2 Curated Art Blocks
Art Blocks is a dynamic art platform that exemplifies how blockchain and computer code may be used to create something uniquely beautiful. Scripts may be written to generate unique art pieces throughout the NFT minting process.
With a total trading volume of 197,851.89 ETH, Art Blocks Curated is the most popular Art Blocks project.
There are now 39,200 pieces in the collection. All new entries must be authorized by a curation board, as the name implies.
#3 Bored Ape Yacht Club
This project is a compilation of 10,000 Bored Ape digital collectibles that has earned a total trade volume of 170,657.34 ETH thus far. One of the most popular NFT, this one in particular gives their owners exclusive access to an online club.
A collection of 107 Bored Ape NFTs sold for $24.4 million in an online auction by Sotheby’s earlier this month.
#4 Rarible
Rarible is unique in that it is both an NFT marketplace and a framework for minting cryptocurrencies. The company raised $14.2 million in a Series A fundraising round earlier this year.
Rare objects can be easily exchanged, where they have generated 96,534.57 ETH.
#5 Mutant Ape Yacht Club
A compilation from the Bored Ape project rounds out the top five. Existing Bored Ape NFTs are exposed to a mutant serum to generate mutant Apes.
There are presently 15,800 items in the collection, which have generated 80,766.62 ETH.
#6 Meebits
Meebits are expected to be one of the most popular NFT in 2020.
Meebits is a compilation of 20,000 3D voxel characters made by an algo, which is another creative art effort. It presently has a total trading volume of 69,903.48 ETH.
#7 CryptoKitties
The following collection requires little explanation. CryptoKitties is amongst the first projects to get mainstream notice after CryptoPunks started the NFT movement.
The digital collection game- released in late 2017, became an instant hit, almost clogging up the Ethereum network.
